Vintage style floral Paper using a digistamp or overlay

In this part we will be using a Digistamp in PSP or PS and making a pretty vintage style floral Paper

Open your PSP  this will work in all versions... I'm using psp9 here  however some of the newer ones will have the tools in a different place..
What you'll need:  Digistamps or overlays plugins and floral images

http://www.mediafire.com/file/igwi2uta5hksdbk/miggs_digiairbrush_tut.zip/file
Download the supplies I've used

Open images in PSP and Minimise
Place the Simple Filters folder in your PSP Plugins folder

To read about digistamps and how to install PS and AI brushes got to the files pages above or click here

New Image 3600 by 3600  300dpi

from the Zip-file open the florals in PSP and choose three flowers
Copy and paste these singularly as new layers into your blank 3600px image

arrange them so you can see each flower   somewhat close to each other

Layers Merge Visible

Now Crop the image so there is as little empty area around the flowers as possible

Selection Tool : Square

Image:  Crop to Selection

go to
Effects: Plugins :Simple : Half Wrap

Depending where and how you arranged your flowers  will determine the end result  so there are many many results from this  try experimenting later with different placings

looks odd just now don't panic

New Image 3600 by 3600  300dpi

 Flood Fill Tool

Materials palette:  Pattern

Select the floral pattern image in the drop down menu

Angle 50  Scale 50

Fill the new image with this pattern

 Layers: New layer
Drag the layer to the bottom and flood fill with a complimentary colour
I'm using a dull cream   #e8e2d2

with this layer active copy and paste the text or the music images as a new layer  Ill use the text

This looks good just like it is and you can merge the layers and save but we can improve it

With the text layer active Set the Blend Mode to Difference

(depending on the background colour the blends will all act differently so play with this )

now with the Floral Layer Active  Add a Drop-shadow to the flowers

V: 3  H: -3
Opacity: 14   Blur:  5.80   Colour: Black

Layers Merge  Save

And you have a pretty old style pattern Paper..

so now you experiment ... try this.

  • distressing the Text and or background layers
  • using a grunge mask or overlay or digistamp over the merged  image
  • using a gradient as the backing colour
  • changing the colour of the text layer
  • try different Blend modes
  • change the opacity on the layers
  • not adding a drop-shadow to the flowers
  • adding a drop-shadow to the text
  • changing the angle and size in the materials palette
  • try the different filters

I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial
